How does this differ from a switchgear tulip contact?
Duty cycle. A switchgear tulip sees thousands of plug-and-unplug operations over its life. A surge arrester tulip sees one disconnect event in service. The plating, spring tension, and dimensional stability requirements are different.
Can switchgear tulip contacts be used in surge arrester applications?
Sometimes. The form factor is similar. But the silver plating thickness and spring tension specs for switchgear are usually optimized for cycle life, which is overkill (and over-cost) for surge arrester duty. Specify your application clearly when ordering.
