Technical Description
AgW Custom Component
AgW custom component is the catch-all listing for silver-tungsten parts that don't fit the standard tip, rivet, or button forms. If you have a drawing for an AgW part with a unique geometry — proprietary contact shape, custom bimetallic structure, specialty arc-resistant insert, or any application requiring AgW in a non-standard form — this is the right starting point.
Most of our AgW work is custom-machined to drawing. We don't operate from a fixed catalog of finished parts; the standard SKUs in this category exist because certain forms repeat across customers. The custom component listing is where everything else lives.

Applications
- Custom AgW geometries for LV apparatus OEMs with proprietary contact designs
- Bimetallic AgW + copper / copper alloy / steel composite contacts
- Specialized AgW components for non-standard switching applications
- Replacement parts where the original SKU isn't cataloged and only the drawing or sample exists
- One-off AgW parts for prototypes and engineering samples
Technical Notes
AgW machining is CNC-friendly with carbide tooling. The material behaves more like a silver-tungsten composite than pure silver — slower feed rates, conservative depth-of-cut, and more tool wear than equivalent volume in pure silver. For complex geometries with tight tolerances, we offer a design-for-manufacturability review before tooling.
For bimetallic AgW parts (AgW + backing material), the bond between AgW and backing is the critical design point. We produce bimetallic AgW through several processes: brazing (highest joint strength, suitable for thicker AgW layers), diffusion bonding (clean interface, suitable for thinner AgW), and mechanical attachment (riveting, pressing). The choice depends on the AgW thickness, the backing material, and the apparatus's duty cycle.
For prototypes, single-piece runs are routine but disproportionately expensive per part compared to small-batch orders. If you're prototyping with intent to move to production, ordering a small batch (10–20 pieces) is often more cost-effective.
Sourcing & OEM
Send drawings in DXF / PDF / STEP format with target quantity, AgW grade, and backing material (if bimetallic). We'll confirm feasibility, recommend any geometry tweaks, and quote.
Technical FAQ
Common questions about this product.
What's the largest AgW custom part you can machine?
Maximum part size depends on the grade and the machining envelope. For typical LV apparatus applications, our envelope is well above what you'd encounter. Send your drawing for confirmation.
Can you produce bimetallic AgW parts (AgW + copper backing)?
Yes. AgW + copper, copper alloy, or steel backing combinations are routine. Specify the AgW thickness, backing material, and overall geometry. We can recommend the appropriate bonding process based on the application.
What AgW grade should I specify for my custom part?
Match the grade to the application duty cycle (see Silver Tungsten Series for grade overview). For general-purpose applications, AgW30 / 40 / 50. For heavy duty, AgW70 / 80. Discuss your application when sourcing.
Do you offer design-for-manufacturability feedback?
Yes. Submit your drawing and we'll review for features affecting cost or yield: thin walls, deep pockets, very tight tolerances on non-critical features. There's no obligation to change the design; the feedback is a free first step.
Can you work from a sample instead of a drawing?
Yes. Send the sample; we can scan, measure, and produce to a drawing we generate. IP terms during quoting, we treat customer parts as confidential.
What is the typical lead time?
Lead time varies widely with part complexity, AgW grade, and quantity. Contact us with your specifications.
