An effective combination enquiry defines the relationship between the switching device, fuses and protection duty. Organize system data, load requirements, mechanical interfaces and supply scope separately rather than relying on a single current or interruption value.
Prepare system and load information
Provide the primary diagram, system voltage and frequency, earthing arrangement and prospective fault conditions. Transformer enquiries need nameplate and protection information; motor enquiries also need starting method, operating cycle and controls.
- System and operating environment
- Load nameplate and operating conditions
- Upstream and downstream protection requirements
Separate device and combination data
Specify requirements for the switch or contactor, fuse and complete combination separately. Transfer or takeover-related data need their original definition and applicable configuration. Similar values do not make different combination types equivalent, and model suffixes are not a substitute for documented ratings.
- Complete device and mechanism references
- Fuse reference and characteristic data
- Coordination basis for the complete combination
Include mechanisms, interfaces and service space
Identify fuse length, end contacts, striker or trip interfaces and the matching insulating housing. Withdrawable arrangements also need carriage travel, primary contacts and secondary connections, together with the space required for removal and replacement.
- Fuse and housing interface drawings
- Carriage and panel positioning
- Control supply, interlocks and auxiliary contacts
Define quotation and acceptance by schedule
List the device, mechanism, carriage, fuses and accessories separately, with quantities, delivery destination and required documents. Define responsibility for assembly, wiring, coordination confirmation and inspection so the complete combination has the same meaning to each party.
- Itemized supply and quantities
- Drawings, test and inspection records
- Configuration approval and acceptance responsibility
Can an enquiry start without a specified fuse?
An enquiry can start with requirements, but identify the fuse as unselected and supply load, protection and interface information. An unspecified configuration is not a verified combination.
Can a contactor combination use the same data as a switch combination?
Assess each device and load duty separately. Do not transfer ratings or coordination conclusions across combination types.

Prepare a combination enquiry package
Bring together system, load, fuse and interface information, with an itemized schedule distinguishing specified components from those still to be selected.
