Technical Description

Bronze Precision Machined Component

Bronze precision part is the catch-all listing for bronze components that don't fit the standard form factors, bushing, contact finger, ring, commutator plate. If you have a drawing for a bronze geometry that's specific to your switchgear or assembly design, this is the right starting point.

Custom bronze parts cover a wide range of MV switchgear applications: spring carriers, terminal blocks, conductor adapters, mounting brackets that need bronze's conductivity and corrosion resistance, and the dozens of small machined parts in any modern switchgear assembly.

Applications

  • Custom bronze geometries for MV switchgear OEMs with proprietary designs
  • Replacement parts where the original SKU isn't cataloged and only the drawing or sample exists
  • Specialized bronze components for non-standard switchgear applications
  • One-off bronze parts for prototyping and engineering samples

Technical Notes

Bronze machining is CNC-friendly with carbide tooling. The alloys behave differently, phosphor bronze cuts cleanly, aluminum bronze is harder and slower, brass is the easiest to machine. Tolerance achievable depends on the alloy and the part complexity; standard machining tolerance covers most switchgear applications, with tighter tolerance possible for critical features.

For complex parts, we offer a design-for-manufacturability review before tooling. Submit your drawing and we'll flag any features that would benefit from a small geometry change, usually saving cost and improving yield. There's no obligation if you'd prefer to machine the drawing as-is.

For prototypes, single-piece orders are routine but disproportionately expensive per part compared to small-batch runs. If you're prototyping with intent to move to production, ordering a small batch (e.g. 10–20 pieces) is often more cost-effective.

Sourcing & OEM

Send drawings in DXF / PDF / STEP format with target quantity and alloy preference. We'll confirm feasibility, recommend any geometry tweaks, and quote.

Technical FAQ

Common questions about this product.

What's the largest bronze part you can machine?

Maximum part size depends on the alloy and the machining envelope. For typical switchgear applications (parts that fit in MV switchgear cabinets), our envelope is well above what you'd encounter. Send your drawing for confirmation.

What alloy should I specify?

Aluminum bronze C95400 for general mechanical components, phosphor bronze C51000 for spring elements, brass C26000 for cost-sensitive non-critical parts. For specific guidance based on your application, send the drawing and intended duty.

Do you offer design-for-manufacturability feedback?

Yes. Submit your drawing and we'll review for features affecting cost or yield. There's no obligation to change the design; the feedback is a free first step.

Can you produce prototypes?

Yes, single-piece prototypes available. For cost reasons, small batches (10–20 pieces) are often more economical per part. Discuss your prototyping goals when quoting.

Can you work from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. Send the sample; we can scan, measure, and produce to a drawing we generate. IP terms during quoting, we treat customer parts as confidential.
